Those Plastic Shopping Bags
Below is an email I received from a visitor to my website greenlivingri.com
Hi Jerry,
One of my pet peeves is the number of plastic bags we (USA) consume. Stop & Shop Super markets started a program about 8 years ago, to convert consumers to Re-useable shopping bags. They offered nylon & canvas bags for sale and for every bag you brought in (even your own bags) they would donate the cost of a plastic bag toThe Nature Conservancy. One year they donated nearly $33,000. It’s such an easy thing to do..I just keep the bags in my car, so they’re always ready. I’ve always thought thatthis could be a good lessen for elementary school age children- particularly if discussed around Earth-Day events. Maybe the teachers could enlist children to persuade their parentsto switch to re-usable bags! Also- when shopping for single or easily carried items—just say “NO Bag please”, to the clerk! Imagine how mush plastic we could eliminate.
Trying to do my part.

“Green” is everywhere
Everywhere I turn these days I see something relating to living more environmentally friendly lifestyle. In the Providence Sunday Journal Home section there is always at least one article about organic gardening, building a green home, etc. I’ve also an interesting thing about the home shows I’ve seen advertised. They all mention something about living green. I tend to think that others are noticing this sort of stuff as well.
